Vertigo

The rabbit senses a wolf
but pushes on. The hard cachunk
of boot to grate draws a glance.
Feet float miles above steep
windy ice-rock. Hands to cold umbilical
stop me from following my stomach down.

Rails become Mother as I clutch
to keep from falling. Hands
shaken and white pull me
along. One last reach and
rock solid earth kisses my feet.
The steely grin glistens back at me.
The rabbit defeats the wolf.
